Mark Mortensen Biography
Mark Mortensen, Ph.D., is a professor of organizational behavior and associate dean of the Middle East campus at INSEAD. Mortensen is recognized for his research on hybrid, remote, and globally distributed work, focusing on how organizations can leverage these models while addressing their inherent challenges. With a background in engineering, Mortensen applies a problem-solving approach to organizational science, specializing in team collaboration, group dynamics, and organizational design.
Before joining INSEAD, Mortensen served on the faculty at MIT Sloan School of Management and McGill University School of Management. His research explores multi-teaming—the practice of assigning employees to multiple projects simultaneously—and dynamic staffing. Mortensen examines how hybrid work influences team dynamics, trust, collaboration, psychological safety, and mental health in the workplace. He has collaborated with companies such as Adidas, Deutsche Telekom, Goldman Sachs, Maersk Oil, SAP, and Qatar Petroleum.
