Robert W. Mixon, Jr. Biography

Major General Robert W. Mixon Jr. (U.S. Army, Retired) is a military leader, author, and leadership consultant with more than three decades of service in the United States Army. Mixon graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point with a Bachelor of Science degree and earned a Master of Military Art and Science from the School of Advanced Military Studies at the United States Army Command and General Staff College. During his Army career, he commanded armor and cavalry units at the platoon, company, battalion, and brigade levels.

Mixon held staff positions including deputy executive assistant to General Colin Powell, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He led the Army's Task Force Modularity, an integrated team of military and civilian experts tasked with redesigning the Army's force structure during active conflict. As commanding general of the 7th Infantry Division and Fort Carson, Colorado, Mixon oversaw training and deployment operations for more than 20,000 soldiers, including National Guard brigades preparing for combat deployments.

After retiring from active duty, Mixon transitioned to the private sector as president of Magnatag Visible Systems, where he guided the company through a significant economic downturn. He later served as executive vice president of CDS Monarch, a not-for-profit organization providing life and job transition services for individuals with developmental disabilities, and helped establish the Warrior Salute Program for veterans with PTSD and TBI.

Mixon co-founded Level Five Associates, a leadership consulting firm specializing in change management and organizational culture. The company applies The Big Six Leadership Principles, as described in James C. Collins' book "Good to Great." Mixon co-authored the book "Cows in the Living Room: Developing an Effective Strategic Plan and Sustaining It," and authored "We're All In: The Journey to a World-Class Culture" and "The Power of Being All In: Why Today's Transformative Times Demand Transformational Leadership." His work focuses on leadership development, strategic planning, and navigating organizational change.

Mixon serves as a faculty member at the Thayer Leader Development Group at West Point and has taught at business schools including Simon School of Business at the University of Rochester, Olin Business School at Washington University in St. Louis, and Cox Business School at Southern Methodist University. He is a five-time recipient of a Business Leadership Teaching Excellence Award from SMU Cox School of Business. Mixon is recognized for his expertise in change management, leadership development, and building cultures centered on trust and empowerment.
