Jorge Ramos is a prominent journalist in Spanish-language media, often referred to as the "Walter Cronkite of Latino America." Ramos is recognized as one of the best-known Spanish-language news anchors in the United States, with a career spanning four decades in broadcast journalism. He began as a newswriter and on-air reporter for Televisa, Mexico's largest media company, before relocating to the United States due to concerns over the network's relationship with the Mexican government. In the U.S., Ramos became a national news anchor for Univision at age 28, cohosting the network's flagship news program, "Noticiero Univision," alongside María Elena Salinas. This appointment made him one of the youngest national TV anchors in American media.
During his tenure at Univision, Ramos covered major international conflicts, including wars in El Salvador, the Persian Gulf, Kosovo, Afghanistan, and Iraq. He reported on significant global events such as the fall of the Berlin Wall, the dissolution of the Soviet Union, 9/11, and Hurricane Katrina. Ramos has interviewed numerous world leaders, including Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George H. W. Bush, Fidel Castro, Daniel Ortega, and Hugo Chávez. In addition to his nightly newscast, he launched the weekly political talk show "Al Punto" and later hosted an English-language news program on Fusion. He was removed from a news conference by Donald Trump after questioning him on immigration policy and was detained in Venezuela's presidential palace after challenging President Nicolás Maduro about the country's humanitarian crisis. Time Magazine included him among the 100 most influential people in the world, and a Pew Hispanic Center survey identified him as one of the most recognized Latino leaders in the United States. After leaving Univision, Ramos began hosting the independent online news show "Así veo las cosas," continuing his focus on news reporting, immigration issues, and Latino community representation.
