Ian Somerhalder is an actor, producer, and entrepreneur best known for his roles as Boone Carlyle on "Lost" and Damon Salvatore on The CW’s hit supernatural drama "The Vampire Diaries." He later executive produced and starred in "V-Wars," and produced the Netflix environmental documentary "Kiss the Ground."
Born and raised in Covington, Louisiana, Somerhalder began modeling at age 10 before turning to acting in his late teens. His early film work includes "The Rules of Attraction," but his breakout came with "Lost" in 2004, followed by the global success of "The Vampire Diaries."
Beyond entertainment, Somerhalder is a co-founder of Brother's Bond Bourbon, launched with former co-star Paul Wesley; the brand quickly became one of 2021’s fastest-selling premium bourbons.
A longtime environmental advocate, he founded the Ian Somerhalder Foundation and has supported initiatives including the United Nations Environment Programme and the Jane Goodall Institute. Logistically everything went great. Ian was really low maintenance and personable. You could tell he loved spending time with us. He was incredibly passionate and knowledgable. The only downside is that during the Q&A the responses seemed canned and didn't truly answer the moderator's questions, which came off as a little strange to some in the audience. However, the content itself was good and he actually had a lot to say, so it almost seemed like it would have been better off to not have a moderator. However, it was understandable that this happened since he had never really done something like this before. Overall, the event execution went very well, and we received generally positive reactions from the audience and could feel the excitement before, during and after the event.
