Kelsey Barnard Clark Biography
Kelsey Barnard Clark is an American chef, restaurateur, and culinary entrepreneur known for her contributions to Southern cuisine and hospitality. Clark began her culinary career in middle school, working for a local caterer and catering her first solo wedding at age 15. She graduated from the Culinary Institute of America and refined her skills in Michelin-starred kitchens in New York, including Café Boulud under Gavin Kaysen and Dovetail under John Fraser. After gaining experience in high-pressure restaurant environments, Clark returned to Dothan, Alabama, to open Kelsey Barnard Catering and later her own restaurant.
Clark became the fifth woman and first Southerner to win the title of Bravo's "Top Chef," earning fan favorite honors following her Season 16 win. She was also a James Beard Award nominee for Best Chef: South. In the show's finale, Clark presented a four-course Southern-inspired meal that combined classic cooking techniques with Macanese ingredients, highlighting her approach to modern Southern cooking. Her win marked a significant moment for Southern cuisine on the national stage.
Clark is the owner and executive chef of KBC, a restaurant, bakery, and catering business in Dothan. Her Southern-French cuisine draws on heirloom family recipes and classical technique. Clark is recognized for her commitment to community, mentoring underrepresented voices in the hospitality industry, and supporting second-chance employment opportunities for formerly incarcerated individuals.
Clark has appeared on Food Network shows including "Tournament of Champions," "Chopped," "Bobby's Triple Threat," and "Guy's Grocery Games." She is also a co-star of Netflix's culinary competition "Next Gen Chef." Clark is the author of cookbooks "Southern Grit" and "Southern Get-Togethers," with a third, "Flavor of Fire," forthcoming. Through her restaurants, television appearances, and writing, Clark continues to influence the evolution of modern Southern cuisine and hospitality.
