Giada De Laurentiis Biography
Giada De Laurentiis is an Italian-American chef, entrepreneur, writer, and Emmy Award-winning television personality known for her influence in the culinary industry. The granddaughter of film producer Dino De Laurentiis, she was raised in an environment steeped in Italian food culture, spending significant time at her grandfather's restaurant, DDL Foodshow. After earning a degree in social anthropology from UCLA, De Laurentiis trained at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris with the goal of becoming a pastry chef. She refined her culinary skills at the Ritz Carlton and Wolfgang Puck's Spago in Beverly Hills before founding her catering company, GDL Foods, which served a Hollywood clientele.
De Laurentiis began her television career after being featured in Food & Wine magazine, which led to her debut on Food Network with the show "Everyday Italian." The program earned her a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lifestyle Host. She went on to host several series, including "Giada at Home," "Giada's Weekend Getaways," "Giada in Italy," "Giada Entertains," and "Giada's Holiday Handbook," and served as a judge and mentor on "Food Network Star." De Laurentiis has hosted or co-hosted 18 television shows and appears regularly as a contributor and guest co-host on NBC's Today. Her show "Giada Entertains" received additional Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Culinary Series and Outstanding Culinary Host, establishing her as a leading figure in food television.
In addition to her television work, De Laurentiis is the author of nine New York Times bestselling cookbooks, including "Everyday Italian," "Giada's Family Dinners," "Everyday Pasta," "Eat Better, Feel Better," and "Giada's Italy." She also created the children's book series "Recipe for Adventure," which explores culinary journeys in cities around the world. De Laurentiis expanded her brand with Giadzy.com, a lifestyle and e-commerce platform offering recipes, travel guidance, entertaining ideas, and curated kitchen products.
As a restaurateur, De Laurentiis became the first female chef to open a restaurant on the Las Vegas Strip with her flagship restaurant GIADA at The Cromwell hotel. Her restaurant portfolio includes "Pronto by Giada" at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, "GDL Italian" in Baltimore, and "Luna by Giada" at Caesars Republic Scottsdale, with additional locations planned.
