Damaris Phillips Biography
Damaris Phillips is an American chef and television personality known for her modern twists on Southern and Classic Comfort Foods. After formal culinary training, Phillips further refined her skills in restaurant kitchens from New York to Seattle and Kentucky to Louisiana under renowned chefs and restaurateurs. In 2010, Phillips began teaching in the Culinary Arts department of Jefferson Community and Technical College, a role she found immensely rewarding. Her teaching career took a turn in 2013 when she won the ninth season of the Food Network series "Food Network Star." This victory led to a larger platform for Phillips to share her love for cooking and teaching.
Phillips hosted the Food Network show "Southern at Heart" from 2013 to 2016, introducing viewers to her Kentucky roots. In 2018, she began co-hosting "The Bobby and Damaris Show" on Food Network with Bobby Flay, bringing southern recipes to Bobby's Hampton's home, and was nominated for a James Beard Award. In addition to these programs, Phillips also co-hosted "Southern and Hungry" with Rutledge Wood, showcasing the finest dining locations in the South. She also frequently appears on "Guy's Grocery Games" as a judge and competing chef.
Beyond her shows on Food Network, Phillips can also be seen on several other platforms, including “Beat Bobby Flay” and “Kids BBQ Championship.” Phillips now hosts the "Gussied Up" series on her YouTube channel, New Fashioned with Damaris Phillips. She is a frequent guest on the “Today Show,” “Good Morning America,” “The Kelley Clarkson Show,” “Rachel Ray Show,” and “The Wendy Williams Show.” In 2019, Phillips co-founded the Bluegrass Supper Club in Louisville, Kentucky, a designer picnic company celebrating Kentucky Farmers and Culture. She released her first cookbook, “Southern Girl Meets Vegetarian Boy” in October 2017.
