Janet Shamlian Biography
Janet Shamlian is a national network correspondent who has reported for CBS News, including "CBS Mornings" and the "CBS Evening News," and for NBC News, including "TODAY" and "NBC Nightly News." She has covered the biggest stories for more than two decades.
Shamlian has reported on the 2025 Central Texas/Camp Mystic floods, the 2022 Uvalde school shooting, the overturning of Roe v. Wade, and countless hurricanes and other stories of worldwide significance. At NBC News, she covered Hurricane Katrina, the Pulse nightclub shooting, the Deepwater Horizon oil spill and a range of feature stories for "TODAY." She reported from France in the first hours after the 2016 Nice truck attack, where she was vacationing with family. Shamlian conducted the first evening network broadcast interview with Michelle Obama, the wife of then-presidential candidate Barack Obama, on "NBC Nightly News" in 2007.
Before joining NBC News, Shamlian was a stay-at-home mom to five children. The improbable journey from stay-at-home mom to becoming a prominent network correspondent is documented in the book, "Extreme You," which recounts her path.
