Sherri Shepherd is an Emmy Award-winning actress, comedian, author, and television personality known for her work in American entertainment. Shepherd began her stand-up comedy career while working as a legal secretary, eventually transitioning into television acting. She gained recognition for her roles on "The Jamie Foxx Show," "Suddenly Susan," and "Everybody Loves Raymond." Shepherd starred as Ramona Platt in the sitcom "Less Than Perfect."
Shepherd served as a co-host of the daytime talk show "The View," earning multiple Daytime Emmy Award nominations and one win. During her tenure, Time included her and her co-hosts in its "100 Most Influential People in the World" list, and Forbes ranked "The View" hosts among the "30 Most Influential Women in Media." Shepherd has described her time on "The View" as a significant period of professional growth.
Shepherd continued her television presence with a recurring role as Angie Jordan on "30 Rock," and appeared in films such as "Precious" and "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa." Her film credits also include "Think Like a Man," "Top Five," and "Ride Along 2." Shepherd has appeared on Max's "The Sex Lives of College Girls" and Prime Video's "Harlem." She joined the company of Aladdin on Broadway as the Genie for a limited run.
Shepherd hosted "Dish Nation" and launched the syndicated daytime talk show "Sherri." The show received nominations for Daytime Emmy Awards, NAACP Image Awards—including a win for outstanding talk series—and a People's Choice Awards nomination. Shepherd was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the category of Television. Her podcast, "Two Funny Mamas," has earned multiple NAACP Image Awards. In 2026, she made history as the first woman to play the Genie in the Broadway production of Disney's "Aladdin."
A New York Times best-selling author, Shepherd has written "Plan D: How to Lose Weight and Beat Diabetes (Even If You Don't Have It)" and "Permission Slips: Every Woman's Guide to Giving Herself a Break." She expanded her work as an author with the children's book "Sunshine Queens," and co-wrote the romance novel "Life Is a K-Drama" with Jayci Lee.
