Rich Roll Biography
Rich Roll is a Stanford University and Cornell Law School graduate who transitioned from a career as an entertainment attorney to become a prominent figure in wellness, endurance athletics, and personal reinvention. A competitive swimmer at Stanford, Roll faced challenges with alcohol that affected his personal and professional life. After achieving sobriety and spending years focused on his legal career, he experienced a pivotal moment at age 40. Confronting health and lifestyle concerns, he adopted a plant-based diet and began endurance training.
Roll became the first vegan to complete the Ultraman World Championships, placing 11th overall in his debut and later finishing sixth. He also completed the EPIC5 Challenge, which involves five Ironman-distance triathlons on five Hawaiian islands in under a week. Men's Fitness Magazine recognized him as one of the "25 Fittest Guys in the World." These accomplishments contributed to his reputation in endurance sports and highlighted the potential of plant-based nutrition for athletic performance.
Roll documented his transformation in "Finding Ultra: Rejecting Middle Age, Becoming One of the World's Fittest Men, and Discovering Myself," a memoir that became a bestseller and has been translated into multiple languages. He later co-authored the cookbook and lifestyle guide "The Plantpower Way: Whole Food Plant-Based Recipes And Guidance For The Whole Family" with his wife, Julie Piatt. These publications established Roll as a leading voice in plant-based nutrition and wellness.
Through "The Rich Roll Podcast," Roll explores topics such as health, wellness, spirituality, entrepreneurship, creativity, and personal development. The podcast has reached a global audience, reflecting its enduring relevance in the wellness and personal growth space.
Roll has been recognized as an influential figure in the fitness and health industry and has been featured on CNN, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, and Forbes. His journey from addiction and burnout to endurance athlete and media personality positions him as a credible voice on resilience, transformation, and plant-based living.
