David Feherty Biography
David Feherty is recognized as one of golf’s most distinctive personalities, transitioning from a decorated touring professional to a broadcaster, author, and entertainer. Feherty achieved 10 victories worldwide during his professional golf career, earning more than $3 million in prize money. As a regular on the European Tour, his wins include the ICL International, Italian Open, Scottish Open, South Africa PGA, BMW Open, Cannes Open, and Madrid Open. He represented Ireland in international competition, captained the winning Alfred Dunhill Cup team, and played for Europe in the Ryder Cup. Feherty’s top Major Championship performances include a tied-sixth finish at the Open at Turnberry, a tied-fourth at the Open at Troon, and a solo seventh at the PGA Championship at Crooked Stick.
Following his playing career, Feherty began a broadcasting career with CBS, serving as an on-course reporter for the PGA Tour. He later launched the interview series "Feherty" on Golf Channel and joined NBC Sports as a full-time broadcaster. Feherty also became an analyst for LIV Golf. His broadcasting style is known for its wit and insight, contributing to his reputation as a recognizable voice in golf media.
The first episode of "Feherty" became the most-watched premiere for an original series in Golf Channel history. Over five seasons, Feherty interviewed a range of guests, including former President Bill Clinton, NBA MVP Bill Russell, Larry David, Samuel L. Jackson, and Don Cheadle. He received an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Sports Personality, Studio Host. Feherty’s approach to golf commentary has attracted audiences beyond traditional golf fans.
Feherty is the author of six books, several of which have appeared on the New York Times Best Sellers List, including "The Power of Positive Idiocy." Other titles include "A Nasty Bit of Rough," "Somewhere in Ireland a Village Is Missing an Idiot," "An Idiot for All Seasons," and "David Feherty's Totally Subjective History of the Ryder Cup." In addition to writing, Feherty performs stand-up comedy shows across the United States, blending golf stories with personal experiences, including addiction recovery. His live show, "Feherty Off Tour – Wandering Around On His Own," brings his humor to audiences throughout North America.
Feherty is also active in philanthropy. He co-founded the Troops First Foundation, a nonprofit organization supporting injured warriors from Iraq and Afghanistan and their families. Feherty received the Outstanding Civilian Service Award from the Department of the Army for his contributions through the foundation. His openness about addiction and mental health has strengthened his connection with audiences, establishing him as a prominent figure in golf, sports broadcasting, and mental health advocacy.
