Noah Oppenheim Biography
Noah Oppenheim is an American media executive and screenwriter with a career spanning broadcast journalism, film, and publishing. A magna cum laude graduate of Harvard University, Oppenheim served as editorial chair of The Harvard Crimson, establishing a foundation for his work in news and entertainment. He co-authored "The Intellectual Devotional" series, with "The Intellectual Devotional: American History" reaching The New York Times Best Seller list for political books.
Oppenheim began his television career at MSNBC as a senior producer on "Hardball with Chris Matthews" and later became executive producer of "Scarborough Country." He contributed to the creation of "Mad Money with Jim Cramer" and served as senior producer of "The Today Show." Oppenheim reported on multiple presidential elections and from international locations including Iraq, Israel, Gaza, the West Bank, and Libya. He held the role of vice president of development at Reveille before returning as senior vice president of "Today." During his tenure, "Today" became the top morning news broadcast in the key A25-54 demographic and won an Emmy Award for outstanding morning program.
As president of NBC News, Oppenheim oversaw significant growth, including the expansion of the network's Investigative Unit, the digital newsroom, and the launch of specialized editorial units focused on business, technology, climate, and election security. He launched the streaming channel NBC News NOW, and NBC News became a top ten podcast publisher with original series such as "Southlake" and "Mommy Doomsday." Oppenheim also established NBC News Studios, producing longform projects that screened at major film festivals. He is an Emmy Award winner and was recognized by The Hollywood Reporter among influential media figures.
In addition to his news career, Oppenheim is known for his work as a screenwriter. He wrote the original screenplay for "Jackie," a biographical drama about Jacqueline Kennedy, which premiered at the Venice International Film Festival and earned three Academy Award nominations. He co-wrote "The Maze Runner," which launched a successful film trilogy, and contributed to the script for "The Divergent Series: Allegiant."
After stepping down as president of NBC News, Oppenheim entered a film and TV production agreement. He co-wrote the political thriller series "Zero Day" for Netflix and wrote the screenplay for "A House of Dynamite," directed by Kathryn Bigelow. Oppenheim also co-founded Prologue Entertainment, an independent production studio focused on premium scripted television series and feature films, with backing from RedBird IMI and RedBird Capital Partners. His experience in both journalism and screenwriting positions him as a versatile figure in contemporary media, with expertise in news leadership, investigative journalism, and film and television production.
