Nick Foles Biography
Nick Foles is a former NFL quarterback known for his 11-season career and significant contributions to professional football. Selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the third round of the NFL Draft out of the University of Arizona, where he set program records in attempts, completions, passing yards, and touchdowns, Foles quickly demonstrated his ability to deliver high-level performances. His breakout occurred during a record-setting season in which he became the first quarterback in NFL history to throw seven touchdowns and achieve a perfect passer rating of 158.3 in a single game. This accomplishment earned him Pro Bowl honors and set the NFL season record for the best touchdown-to-interception ratio.
Foles' career reached its peak when he became the Philadelphia Eagles' starting quarterback late in the regular season after Carson Wentz suffered an injury. Foles led the Eagles on a postseason run that culminated in a 41-33 victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII, securing the franchise's first championship. In that game, he completed 28 of 43 passes for 373 yards, three touchdowns, and a 106.1 passer rating, earning Super Bowl MVP honors. He also became the first player in NFL history to both throw and catch a touchdown pass in a Super Bowl, executing the "Philly Special" play just before halftime. Foles finished the postseason with 971 passing yards, six passing touchdowns, and one interception, and holds the distinction of being the only quarterback in NFL history to post a 100-plus passer rating in each of his first four career postseason starts.
Foles has been open about the personal and professional challenges that shaped his journey, including considering retirement before his Super Bowl run. He detailed these experiences in his memoir, "Believe It: My Journey of Success, Failure, and Overcoming the Odds," which became a New York Times bestseller. The book provides insight into his path to Super Bowl success and explores themes such as faith, resilience, and growth through adversity. Foles donated all proceeds from the book to Christian charities and humanitarian causes.
After playing for the St. Louis Rams, Kansas City Chiefs, Jacksonville Jaguars, Chicago Bears, and Indianapolis Colts, Foles retired from the NFL, ceremonially doing so as a Philadelphia Eagle. He was recognized as the team's honorary captain at Lincoln Financial Field, where he was acknowledged by fans.
