Miles McPherson Biography
Miles McPherson is an American evangelical pastor, author, motivational speaker, and former NFL defensive back whose career spans professional football and faith-based ministry. McPherson attended the University of New Haven, where he majored in engineering and became the university's first player to achieve All-American honors in football and be drafted into the NFL. Originally selected by the Los Angeles Rams, he was released and went on to play defensive back for the San Diego Chargers.
McPherson played four years in the NFL with the San Diego Chargers. During this period, he developed a cocaine addiction, which led him to frequent neighborhoods in San Diego to support his habit. After a weekend of substance abuse, he sought help through faith and overcame his addiction, marking a turning point in his life. Following his retirement from football, McPherson enrolled in Azusa Pacific University's School of Theology, where he earned a Master of Divinity degree.
After his football career, McPherson entered full-time ministry, serving as a youth pastor at Horizon Christian Fellowship in San Diego while pursuing his theological education. He later founded Miles Ahead, a nonprofit international evangelical organization. McPherson also established Rock Church in San Diego, recognized by Outreach Magazine as one of the nation's largest churches, with a significant in-person and online attendance. The church operates multiple campuses throughout San Diego County and supports more than 200 volunteer-led outreach ministries.
McPherson initiated Do Something Church, an organization dedicated to equipping churches to address community needs through outreach strategies. He has authored several books, including "Do Something: Make Your Life Count," which encourages community engagement, and "The Third Option: Hope for a Racially Divided Nation," which presents a faith-based approach to racial reconciliation and addresses misconceptions about race and privilege.
McPherson is also the founder of Just 1 and is recognized for his work in evangelism and community outreach. As pastor of Rock Church, he has shared the gospel nationwide and mobilized the church to impact the community through outreach efforts. His background in professional athletics, personal recovery, and pastoral leadership informs his approach to ministry and public speaking, resonating with audiences across diverse faith traditions and cultures.

We live in an us-versus-them culture. It can be ethnically, or it can be politically. You can be for CNN or for Fox. The world we live in has caused us to think there are only two options. However, there is a third option: This is an option where we honor and place value on what we have in common.
We have more things in common than our differences. We all want to have relationships. We all want to have a nice house and nice car. We all want to have a family.
Miles discusses The Third Option in his presentation, and introduces how this transformative solution addresses the root of these disputes and concerns by honoring our similarities while celebrating our differences. Miles shares his own divers past, and gives real life solutions to an issue that we all face.
The Third Option tenets are outlined in a book Miles authored in 2018. At the end of his presentation, individuals will have knowledge and tools to navigate through our diverse world while treating others and themselves with honor.
