Michael Bradley Biography
Michael Bradley, a former professional soccer player, is currently recognized for his leadership role in Major League Soccer as the head coach of the New York Red Bulls. Bradley's extensive experience on the field saw him making over 300 appearances with Toronto FC before he retired in 2023, highlighted by his captainship during their 2017 MLS Cup victory. His international career is no less noteworthy, with over 150 appearances for the United States national team between 2006 and 2019, including two CONCACAF Gold Cup victories in 2007 and 2017.
Bradley's transfer history also stands as a testament to his skills and versatility, with a notable stint at Borussia Mönchengladbach, where he scored his first goal against Bayern Munich. His move to Serie A teams such as Chievo and Roma further added to his international experience and reputation, earning him the nickname "The General". His return to Major League Soccer in 2014 with Toronto FC saw Bradley named captain in 2015, leading the team to their first MLS Cup final in 2016, and their first MLS Cup win in 2017. His leadership also contributed to a domestic treble in 2017 with the Supporters' Shield victory.
Bradley's individual accolades include being named U.S. Soccer's Young Athlete of the Year for 2007 and earning his 100th international cap in 2015. His performance in the 2017 Gold Cup resulted in him being awarded the Golden Ball. Following his retirement in 2023, Bradley transitioned into coaching, first at Stabæk Fotball, then as a guest assistant coach for the Canada national team. In June 2025, he was appointed the head coach of New York Red Bulls II in MLS Next Pro, leading them to their first-ever championship. By December of the same year, Bradley had ascended to the head coach position of Red Bull New York in Major League Soccer.
