Clint Dempsey Biography
U.S. soccer legend Clint Dempsey is actively involved as a studio analyst, notably for FOX Sports and CBS Sports, providing expert analysis on the USMNT and international tournaments. Following his 2018 retirement and 2022 Hall of Fame induction, he continues to comment on the sport, including discussing the 2026 World Cup and 2025 CONMEBOL Copa America.
With 142 appearances over 13 years, Dempsey helped define one of the most successful and entertaining eras of the U.S. Men’s National Team. Known for his relentless edge, creativity and attacking instinct, Dempsey finished his international career tied with Landon Donovan as the program’s all-time leading scorer with 57 goals, reaching the mark in significantly fewer matches. A three-time Concacaf Gold Cup champion and the first American to score in three FIFA World Cups, he is widely regarded as one of the greatest U.S. players of all time.
Dempsey’s international career featured numerous milestones, including captaining the U.S. team at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and scoring 29 seconds into the opening match against Ghana, the fastest World Cup goal in U.S. history. He later sealed his place atop the scoring charts with a free kick goal during the 2017 Gold Cup, his final international strike.
Dempsey retired in 2018, leaving behind a legacy defined by toughness, flair and an unshakable competitive spirit that reshaped expectations for American players at home and abroad.
