Louis-Philippe Loncke Biography
Louis-Philippe Loncke is a Belgian explorer, adventurer, filmmaker, and motivational speaker known for pioneering world-first expeditions across challenging environments. As an engineer and management consultant, Loncke applies detailed planning and problem-solving skills to succeed in extreme unsupported expeditions. Many of his journeys have been organized while maintaining a full-time career in IT and privacy consulting.
Loncke gained attention in Australia by becoming the first person to walk unsupported across the Simpson Desert, covering 800 kilometers in 35 days and hauling a sled through arid terrain. He completed the first circumnavigation of Lake Titicaca by kayak, mapping the lake with GPS and creating a photographic inventory of the endangered ecosystem. Loncke also led the first expedition from Poland's highest summit to the Baltic Sea using only human power, traveling on foot through mountains and by packraft and kayak along the Vistula River.
He traversed Tasmania during the austral winter without resupply, crossing the island from north to south without using roads or external assistance. ExplorersWeb recognized this Tasmania expedition among the top 10 expeditions of the year. Loncke later became the first person to cross the Pyrenees in complete autonomy, carrying all necessary supplies from the Atlantic Ocean at Hendaye across France, Spain, and Andorra.
Demonstrating versatility, Loncke undertook a 600-kilometer kayak expedition around Belgium after a brief lesson, raising awareness about water pollution. Following this journey, he served as an ambassador for Roots and Shoots and was a torchbearer for the London Olympics. He is a member of the Explorers Club and a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. His honors include the Young Talent of the Year award and the title of European Adventurer of the Year.
In addition to exploration, Loncke works as a filmmaker, speaking coach, and entrepreneur, sharing insights on adventure, leadership, and resilience. He continues to work as a freelance IT management consultant and curates expedition information online to support aspiring explorers, scientists, and business leaders.
