Jocko Willink Biography
Jocko Willink is a retired U.S. Navy SEAL officer, author, entrepreneur, and recognized authority on leadership, discipline, and resilience. Willink served 20 years in the SEAL Teams, beginning as an enlisted SEAL and advancing to officer. As commander of SEAL Team Three's Task Unit Bruiser during the Battle of Ramadi, he led operations that contributed to stabilizing the city, and Task Unit Bruiser became one of the most decorated Special Operations units of the Iraq War. Willink received the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, and several other personal and unit awards during his military career.
Following his deployment, Willink served as Officer-in-Charge of training for all West Coast SEAL Teams, where he developed leadership training programs and mentored future SEAL leaders. After retiring from the Navy, Willink co-founded Echelon Front, a leadership consulting firm, where he serves as chief executive officer, instructor, speaker, and strategic advisor. He also co-owns Origin USA, a company in Farmington, Maine, that manufactures lifestyle apparel, nutrition supplements, fitness equipment, and jiu-jitsu gis.
Willink is the co-author of "Extreme Ownership," "Leadership Strategy and Tactics," "Discipline Equals Freedom," and "The Dichotomy of Leadership." These books, some co-authored with retired SEAL Leif Babin, provide practical frameworks for business leaders, teams, and individuals, drawing on lessons from military leadership and personal development. Willink also created the "Way of the Warrior Kid" children's book series.
After guest appearances on podcasts hosted by Tim Ferriss, Joe Rogan, and Sam Harris, Willink launched his own weekly podcast, which features discussions on leadership, discipline, and personal growth, blending military experience with business and life advice. Willink holds a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and trains regularly. He serves on the board of directors for Major League Soccer club San Diego FC.
"Way of the Warrior Kid" is being adapted into a feature film directed by McG, based on Willink's children's novel. The film features Chris Pratt, Jude Hill, and Linda Cardellini, and is set for release on Apple TV.
