DLynn Proctor is a Master Sommelier recognized for his expertise in the American wine industry. Proctor began his career as a sommelier at Wolfgang Puck Fine Dining and later founded the Dallas Sommelier Group, serving as a broker in the region before joining Penfolds as a regional manager for Luxury Heirloom Wine Group. Wine & Spirits Magazine named Proctor the Best New Sommelier in America, and his work has been featured in national media outlets including Wine Spectator, Everyday with Rachael Ray, Decanter, and The New York Times. He was a finalist in The Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Société Mondiale du Vin Best Sommelier in America Competition and was named to the National RUDD Scholars.
Proctor gained public recognition as one of the four featured subjects in the wine documentary "SOMM," which chronicled the journey to becoming a Master Sommelier. The film highlighted the challenges of sommelier certification and led to sequels including "Somm: Into the Bottle" and "Somm 3." Proctor was also named to Wine Enthusiast's Top 40 Under 40.
Proctor has served as a winemaking ambassador for Penfolds Americas in Napa, California, representing the Penfolds brand of Treasury Wine Estates and promoting their wines internationally. He has trained with winemakers from California to Italy, judged at wine shows, and lectured at universities. Proctor later joined Fantesca Estate & Winery in Napa Valley as director, where he has worked as a sommelier, wine educator, and host of private tastings.
Proctor has appeared in four seasons as Kevin Hart's sommelier in the Peacock Original TV Series "Hart to Heart" and played a prominent role in the wine documentary series "SOMM." He also contributed to the Netflix Original film "Uncorked" both on screen and as an associate producer.
Proctor is a co-founder of Wine Unify, a nonprofit organization focused on providing funding, mentorship, and inclusion for underrepresented minorities in the wine industry.
