Dearica Hamby Biography
Dearica Hamby is a WNBA Forward for the Los Angeles Sparks. Originating from Marietta, GA, she played for Wake Forest Women’s Basketball, where she was named First-team All-ACC in 2014 and remains the program’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder. She entered the 2015 WNBA Draft as the 6th overall pick for the San Antonio Stars, which later rebranded as the Las Vegas Aces in 2018. Hamby was voted the WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year in 2019 and 2020 and has been selected as a WNBA All-Star three times, in 2021, 2022, and 2024. She earned her first WNBA Championship title and won the Commissioner’s Cup in 2022 with the Las Vegas Aces. Hamby also holds the record for the most double-doubles by a reserve off the bench in the WNBA.
Known for her competitive spirit, Hamby made a game-winning shot in the 2019 WNBA Playoffs that was dubbed "the shot of the year" by the WNBA website. She played for the San Antonio Stars/Las Vegas Aces from 2015 to 2022 before being traded to the Los Angeles Sparks in 2023. Over her professional career, Hamby has averaged 9.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game. In her notable international career, Hamby has represented the USA Basketball national team and won a gold medal in the Women's 3x3 basketball at the AmeriCup in 2023 and a bronze medalist at the 2024 Summer Olympics. In 2024, it was announced that Hamby would compete in the new 3x3 women's basketball league Unrivaled's inaugural season in 2025.
