Sabrina Ionescu Biography
Sabrina Ionescu is a professional basketball player playing for the New York Liberty. Ionescu has consistently showcased her skills in the league, becoming the first player in WNBA history to record over 500 points, 200 rebounds, and 200 assists within a single season. In 2022, she made history again by recording a triple-double in less than three quarters, the quickest in the WNBA, against Chicago. Later, she achieved the first 30-point triple-double in a game at Las Vegas. Acknowledging her abilities, she was named a WNBA All-Star three times and was twice included in the All-WNBA Second Team, in addition to winning the WNBA Three-Point Shootout and Skills Challenge.
Prior to her professional career, Ionescu's record at the University of Oregon was equally noteworthy. She is the NCAA all-time leader in career triple-doubles and holds the Pac-12 Conference all-time assists record. Notably, she became the first NCAA player to achieve 2,000 points, 1,000 assists, and 1,000 rebounds throughout her college career. For her outstanding performance, she was awarded Naismith Player of the Year, AP Player of the Year, and USBWA Player of the Year in 2020. Furthermore, she received the John R. Wooden Award and the Wade Trophy and was named Pac-12 Player of the Year three times. Ionescu's collegiate achievements culminated with her being selected first overall by the New York Liberty in the 2020 WNBA draft.
On the international stage, Ionescu represented the United States in various competitions, winning a gold medal at the 2022 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup and the 2024 Summer Olympics. Off the court, Ionescu's influence extends to her role as a Nike athlete, having signed a multiyear endorsement deal and releasing her signature shoe, the Nike Sabrina 1s. In 2023, she was recognized as a WNBA Commissioner's Cup Champion and also made the Forbes' 30 Under 30 list. Balancing her professional commitments, Ionescu has also returned to her alma mater, Oregon, in a part-time role as the director of athletic culture.
