For nearly three decades, we have aimed to assess and influence the significance of civility, manners, respect, and politeness in contemporary society.
This presentation will illustrate how fostering a culture of civility in today's workplace is good for you and good for business in any industry. For three decades, we have assessed and influenced the significance of civility and respect in the modern workplace.
Treating others with civility and respect is the foundation of all ethical systems, the building block of community, and the cornerstone of our healthcare systems. For three decades we have assessed and influenced the significance of civility in healthcare and illuminated the connections between civility, ethics, and quality of life. Recent research on "scientific civility" underscores how civility and collaboration are at the heart of high performing teams that provide the best care, do the best research, and achieve the best clinical and financial outcomes.
During these past couple of years, living through a global pandemic, rates of stress, anxiety, depression, and substance misuse have skyrocketed. The isolation that many have experienced due to social distancing, remote work, and quarantine requirements only compound the sense of disconnection. Stress and anonymity are two of the main drivers of incivility, and kindness is a simple strategy to rebuild civility and connection. This workshop will review the ways in which choosing civility and kindness can enhance relational competence and purposeful poise and improve health and mental health. We will consider how civility can become a powerful way to renew respect for oneself and others with lasting public health implications.
