Sarah Wayne Callies is a versatile actress who first garnered widespread recognition for her role on the hit television series "Prison Break," which aired from 2005 to 2009 on FOX and later saw a revival in 2017. Her portrayal of Dr. Sara Tancredi, a prison doctor with a complex relationship with the protagonist, Michael Scofield, captivated audiences and showcased her ability to bring depth and nuance to her characters.
Callies is also well-known for her role as Lori Grimes in the critically acclaimed AMC series "The Walking Dead," one of the most successful series of its time. From 2010 to 2013, she played the wife of the show's lead character, Rick Grimes, navigating the challenges of a post-apocalyptic world.
Beyond these roles, Callies has continued to build a diverse portfolio of work, including appearances in series like "Colony" and "Council of Dads," and films such as "Into the Storm" and "The Other Side of the Door." She has also ventured into writing and directing.
Off-screen, Callies has represented the International Rescue Committee (IRC) as an ambassador for more than 13 years. Inspired by her grandfather’s experience as a refugee fleeing Hungary, she has spent time learning from IRC clients and staff members in Thailand, Iraq, Jordan, Serbia, Seattle, San Diego, New York City, Dallas, and Atlanta. In addition to many major moments of support, Callies helped launch the IRC’s partnership with the LEGO foundation called PlayMatters, which focuses on the implementation of play-based learning for children across East Africa.
Callies earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in theater from Dartmouth College and a Master of Fine Arts from the National Theatre Conservatory in Denver, Colorado.
