Peter Windsor Biography
Peter Windsor is a journalist, broadcaster, and championship-winning team manager whose career in Formula One spans more than five decades. Windsor began his journalism career at the magazine Competition Car before becoming a regular Formula One reporter and sports editor at the weekly magazine Autocar. He has received multiple international awards for his writing, including Sports Reporter of the Year and Feature Writer of the Year. Windsor's editorial work established his credibility within the Formula One paddock, and he has been recognized as a leading journalist in the sport.
Windsor transitioned from journalism to team management, serving as sponsorship manager at Williams, then as general manager for Ferrari's UK base, and later returning to Williams as team manager. As race team manager for Williams, Windsor contributed to securing both Drivers' and Constructors' Championships. He was involved in the car accident that left Frank Williams paralyzed, escaping with minor injuries himself. His experience within these teams provided him with an insider's perspective on Formula One operations and motorsport management.
Following his tenure in team management, Windsor returned to media roles, including serving as Grand Prix editor of F1 Racing magazine and as a senior columnist and feature writer for The Racer's Edge section. He also moderated Formula One's post-qualifying and post-race press conferences. Windsor co-founded the US F1 Team with Ken Anderson, aiming to promote American drivers and technology in Formula One, although the team did not compete in a Grand Prix. This initiative highlighted Windsor's ongoing involvement in Formula One team development and American motorsport promotion.
Windsor's film projects include the award-nominated "Race to Perfection," a seven-part history of Formula One since 1950, and a documentary about Nigel Mansell. He has been recognized with the Gold Medal of Imola by the Lorenzo Bandini Trophy Committee for his contributions to motorsport. Windsor serves as senior archivist of The F1 Exhibition, maintaining his role in preserving Formula One history. He has hosted events for brands such as Intel, Hilton, Honda, Porsche, Renault, and Toyota, and has delivered keynote speeches at conferences for HP, CeBIT, and international IT summits.
