Nelson Wiseman Biography
Nelson Wiseman is a Professor Emeritus of Political Science at the University of Toronto and former Director of Canadian Studies, specializing in Canadian government and politics.
His books include Partisan Odysseys: Canada’s Political Parties, The Public Intellectual in Canada, 1950s Canada: Politics and Public Affairs, and Social Democracy in Manitoba. His book, In Search of Canadian Political Culture, was designated by Choice magazine as an Outstanding Academic Title, a designation extended to only three percent of academic publications.
He has appeared as an invited witness at several committees of the Canadian House of Commons and the Senate on issues including the drawing of electoral boundaries, the methods by which Canadians vote, and the regulation political party financing. He authored an invited brief on Canada’s fixed election date laws for the United Kingdom’s House of Lords.
