Myron Mixon Biography
Myron Mixon is an American celebrity chef, restaurateur, and five-time barbecue World Champion known for his significant impact on competitive barbecue. Mixon has earned recognition for winning more than 200 grand championships, accumulating over 1,800 total trophies, 30 state championships, eight Team of the Year awards, and 11 national championships. His achievements include five Grand Champion titles at the Memphis in May World Championship. Mixon's team is noted as the only one to secure Grand Championships in Memphis in May, Kansas City BBQ Society, and Florida BBQ Association within the same year.
Mixon's career in barbecue began with a family tradition, learning the craft from his father, Jack Mixon. He entered competitive barbecue to promote his family's sauce, later naming his company Jack's Old South in honor of his father. In his first competition in Augusta, Georgia, Mixon won first place in whole hog, first in pork ribs, and third in pork shoulder. His competitive success led to his induction into the Barbecue Hall of Fame in Kansas City and recognition with the Carolyn and Gary Well Pioneer of Barbeque Award by the Jack Daniel's World Championship Invitational Barbecue.
Mixon has expanded his expertise into television and publishing. He has served as executive producer and host of "BBQ Rules," host of "Smoked," and star of "BBQ Pitmasters" and "BBQ Pitwars" on Discovery's Destination America and Cooking Channel. Mixon is the author of several cookbooks, including the New York Times bestseller "Smokin' with Myron Mixon: Recipes Made Simple, from the Winningest Man in Barbecue," as well as "Everyday Barbeque," "Myron Mixon's BBQ Rules," "BBQ&A with Myron Mixon," and "Keto BBQ." His books have contributed to making championship-level barbecue techniques accessible to home cooks and aspiring pitmasters.
In addition to competition and media, Mixon is the chief cook of the Jack's Old South Competition Bar-B-Que Team and chef/partner in Myron Mixon's Pitmaster BBQ restaurants in Old Town Alexandria, Miami, and Hoboken. He has developed a line of smokers and grills, as well as sauces and barbecue rubs. Mixon operates a barbecue cooking school in Unadilla, Georgia, and conducts classes and cooking demonstrations internationally. Through his work in competition, television, publishing, and education, Mixon is recognized as an authority in American barbecue, barbecue competitions, and culinary entrepreneurship.
