Monica Phromsavanh Biography
Monica Phromsavanh is a serial entrepreneur and the CEO and co-founder of ModaBox, a data-driven online personal styling and shopping service for women. Born and raised in a refugee camp in northeastern Argentina after her family fled the Laotian civil war, Phromsavanh began her career at age 15, working at a wholesale clothing company in Buenos Aires to support her family. Early exposure to retail and observing her mother’s work in informal markets shaped her understanding of business and consumer behavior. She later moved to New York, where she worked in retail before starting her own business.
Before launching her ventures, Phromsavanh worked at Burberry as a men's ready-to-wear specialist and held management roles at Express stores under Limited Brands. She founded and served as creative director of ModaListas, a women’s apparel and accessories retailer that expanded from a small kiosk in The Limelight to a 4,000-square-foot space within three years. During her time at The Limelight, she also served as managing director and head buyer for W Shops, a men’s clothing retailer. With more than 15 years of experience in retail, marketing, and business management, Phromsavanh has developed expertise in brand building, retail strategy, and consumer engagement.
Phromsavanh launched ModaBox after a trip to Laos, aiming to leverage technology and data analytics to provide personalized fashion experiences for women. ModaBox, co-founded with Daniel Chvatik and Leona Vasserman and based in New York City, uses proprietary algorithms to curate outfits tailored to individual clients, combining fashion expertise with e-commerce innovation.
