Lynda Carter is an American actress, singer, and songwriter recognized for her enduring association with the character Wonder Woman. Prior to her acting career, Carter achieved success as a beauty pageant titleholder, winning Miss World USA and placing in the top 15 at the Miss World pageant. She began performing music professionally as a teenager, touring with bands before moving to Los Angeles to pursue acting.
Carter's breakthrough came with her role as the title character in the television series "Wonder Woman," where she portrayed both the superhero and her alter ego, Diana Prince. The series, which began as an ABC special before becoming a full series and later moving to CBS, ran for four seasons. Carter's performance contributed to the show's popularity and lasting impact in pop culture. DC Comics recognized her influence by naming her among the "Fifty Who Made DC Great." She later appeared in the DC universe as President Olivia Marsdin on the CW series "Supergirl" and made a cameo as the Amazon warrior Asteria in the film "Wonder Woman 1984."
Carter's career spans film, television, music, and video games. She produced and starred in five Emmy-nominated variety specials for CBS and appeared in films such as "Sky High," "Super Troopers," and "Super Troopers 2." She narrated the Smithsonian Channel series "Epic Warrior Women" and served as the face of Maybelline Cosmetics for more than a decade. In the video game industry, Carter provided voice work for "The Elder Scrolls" franchise, including "Oblivion," "Skyrim," and "The Elder Scrolls Online," as well as for the character Magnolia in "Fallout 4," contributing original songs to the game's soundtrack.
Music remains a central part of Carter's career. She released the album "Portrait" and later returned to recording with "At Last," "Crazy Little Things," and the EP "Unexpected." Carter has performed internationally and shared the stage with artists such as Tom Jones, Ray Charles, and Kenny Rogers. She also appeared as Mama Morton in the West End production of "Chicago" and performed at venues including the Kennedy Center and Jazz at Lincoln Center. Carter received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in recognition of her contributions to entertainment.
