Lila Javan Biography
From Hollywood film sets to adventures across more than 35 countries, Lila Javan has spent her life chasing stories and following her curiosity wherever it leads. Along the way, she's discovered that some of life's most meaningful experiences are the ones she never saw coming.
In 2009, Javan was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), an aggressive blood cancer, and given just a 25% chance of surviving four years. Seventeen years, four relapses, and four stem cell transplants later, she knows that courage doesn't mean never being afraid. Medical science has given her more time; curiosity, determination, and a desire to give back have shaped how she's chosen to live it. When illness interrupted her Kilimanjaro dream, she founded Climb2Cure within Blood Cancer United (formerly the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society). She reached the summit with its inaugural team, and the program has raised more than $2 million.
With a master's degree in cinematography from the American Film Institute and more than two decades in Hollywood, Javan reinvented her career in nonprofit philanthropy and social impact. Today, she brings a documentarian's curiosity to her work at Blood Cancer United and to the stage, drawing on the people she's met, the places she's explored, and the stories that connect us.
