Laird Hamilton is the iconic global waterman, innovator, entrepreneur, and one of the most influential pioneers in surf history. Best known for revolutionizing big-wave surfing and popularizing hydrofoil and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), Hamilton has spent his life breaking new boundaries of what’s possible on water—not just as an athlete, but also as a steward and philosopher of the ocean.
Raised on the beaches of Hawaii, Hamilton grew up among board shapers and wave riders who taught him that constant experimentation—not convention—was the path to evolution. From a young age, he rode unconventional boards and tested unproven techniques, driven by curiosity, humility, and a deep respect for nature’s power. He famously broke from traditional surfing to master windsurfing, which launched his career in Europe and sparked a lifelong love affair with wind and motion. But Hamilton has never stayed in one lane—every time he mastered a new discipline, he set a new goal and became a beginner again.
Whether it’s towing into monster waves at Peʻahi (Jaws), inventing foilboards that allow him to ride open-ocean swells for 10 minutes straight, or tackling new frontiers with his team, Hamilton lives on the edge of discovery. He is constantly evolving with the ocean, believing that no wave is ever the same and that mastery is an illusion—the goal is presence, not perfection.
As co-founder of Laird Superfood and Laird Apparel, he applies this same exploratory mindset to health, performance, and human potential. Through his book "Life Rider," brand partnerships, and keynotes, Laird shares wisdom gained from a life at nature’s edge—lessons about finding strength in discomfort, building meaningful connections, and staying true to one’s path.
Today, Hamilton splits his time between Kauai and Malibu with his wife, Gabby Reece, and their family. He continues to chase giant swells, develop next-gen water technology, and mentor a new generation of water athletes who view the ocean not as a conquest—but as a lifelong collaborator.
