Katia Beauchamp is an entrepreneur and co-founder of Birchbox, an e-commerce beauty subscription service that transformed how consumers discover and try beauty products. After graduating from Vassar College, Beauchamp began her career in structured finance and later moved into commercial real estate. The skills developed in these fields contributed to her ability to form partnerships with brands and support the growth and scaling of Birchbox. She earned an MBA from Harvard Business School, where the concept for Birchbox originated.
Birchbox, founded by Beauchamp and Hayley Barna, introduced the direct-to-consumer model for beauty product discovery by delivering monthly customizable boxes of sample-sized cosmetics, skincare, haircare, and lifestyle items. This approach allowed subscribers to try premium brands at an accessible price before purchasing full-size versions. Beauchamp identified a lack of disruption in the beauty market as a driving force behind Birchbox, noting that beauty was only 2 percent sold online at the time. The subscription-service model was later adopted by numerous other e-commerce businesses.
Birchbox gained recognition as a leader in the direct-to-consumer movement, raising significant capital and reaching more than 1 million subscribers. Beauchamp frequently represented the company in the media and at industry events. She and Barna were named to Inc. magazine's 30 Under 30 list for their work with Birchbox, which quickly gained traction with over 100,000 subscribers within its first year. Walgreens acquired a minority stake in Birchbox, bringing curated full-sized skincare, makeup, and hair products to Walgreens stores. Beauchamp described a particularly challenging period as a major transformation for the company and announced that Birchbox achieved profitability with accelerated growth through self-funding. Her experience navigating these challenges has made her a recognized voice on entrepreneurship, resilience, and building businesses in competitive markets, including a featured appearance on NPR's "How I Built This."
Beauchamp later served as CEO of Victoria Beckham Beauty and subsequently launched Buff Beauty, a brand focused on nail health that aims to make regular manicures optional.
