Kathy Giusti Biography
Kathy Giusti is a business leader and healthcare innovator whose personal experience as a two-time cancer survivor led to the founding of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation. A former pharmaceutical executive, Giusti was diagnosed with multiple myeloma while working at G.D. Searle. At the time, the disease was little understood, with no cure and a limited life expectancy. In response, Giusti and her identical twin sister, Karen Andrews, established the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, which has supported thousands of patients and contributed to the development of 15 drugs approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for multiple myeloma treatment.
Giusti co-founded the foundation and served as CEO and president for nearly two decades. She has more than 20 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, holding senior roles at G.D. Searle and Merck. Under her leadership, the foundation introduced collaborative research models in tissue banking, genomics, and clinical trials. The organization has raised over $600 million for research, launched nearly 100 clinical trials, and helped bring more than 15 new drugs to market. Giusti also founded the Multiple Myeloma Research Consortium, a clinical network of academic and community centers with a shared tissue bank, accelerating treatment development and significantly increasing patient survival rates.
Giusti is recognized for her contributions to precision medicine, particularly in oncology. She serves as the Henry & Allison McCance Family Senior Fellow at Harvard Business School and as faculty co-chair of the HBS Kraft Precision Medicine Accelerator. Giusti has worked with three U.S. presidents on cancer initiatives and served on the National Cancer Advisory Board. Her honors include the American Association for Cancer Research Centennial Medal for Distinguished Public Service, the Harvard Business School Alumni Achievement Award, and the Healthcare Businesswomen's Association Woman of the Year Award.
