Marla Blow Biography
Marla Blow serves as president and chief executive officer of the Skoll Foundation, where she oversees operations, strategic grantmaking, and endowment management to advance the foundation's mission of supporting social entrepreneurs and fostering global peace and prosperity. The Skoll Foundation is recognized for its focus on social entrepreneurship and innovation worldwide. Blow brings more than 25 years of experience in social impact, entrepreneurship, capital allocation, and financial services to her role in global philanthropy.
Blow's background includes studies at Wharton and Stanford, as well as experience on Wall Street and at Capital One, where she gained expertise in applied behavioral economics and consumer lending. She contributed to the launch of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, ultimately serving as assistant director for card and payment markets, where she influenced regulatory priorities in those sectors. Her career reflects a blend of private-sector discipline and public-sector accountability.
Before joining the Skoll Foundation, Blow was founder and CEO of FS Card Inc., a Washington, DC-based credit card venture aimed at expanding access to traditional credit for underserved consumers. At Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth, she advanced priorities in North America to promote financial security, foster a more inclusive economy, and support worker mobility, including programmatic work and impact investments addressing racial wealth and opportunity gaps in Black communities.
Blow received the EY Mid Atlantic Emerging Company Entrepreneur of the Year Award and has been recognized by Fast Company as one of the Most Creative People in Business. She was featured in Vanity Fair's "26 Women of Color Diversifying Entrepreneurship" and is a Henry Crown Fellow in the Aspen Global Leadership Network. Blow serves on the board of directors of Etsy Inc. and Square Financial Services, a subsidiary of Square Inc.
