Kate Bowler, Ph.D. is a New York Times bestselling author, award-winning podcast host, and Associate Professor of American Religious History at Duke University. She studies the cultural stories we tell ourselves about success, suffering, and whether or not we’re capable of change. Her motto: "Life is so beautiful. Life is so hard."
Bowler is the author of "Blessed: A History of the American Prosperity Gospel," which received widespread media attention as the first history of the movement based on divine promises of health, wealth, and happiness. After being diagnosed with Stage IV cancer at age 35, Bowler penned two New York Times bestselling memoirs, "Everything Happens for a Reason (and Other Lies I’ve Loved)" and "No Cure For Being Human (and Other Truths I Need to Hear)."
Bowler has been featured in the New York Times, the Washington Post and on the TED Stage, the TODAY Show and NPR. She hosts the "Everything Happens" podcast where she talks with guests like Malcolm Gladwell and Anne Lamott about what they’ve learned in difficult times.
Bowler lives in Durham, North Carolina where she teaches at Duke Divinity School.
