John Hunter Biography
John Hunter is an award-winning gifted teacher and educational consultant who has dedicated his life to helping children realize their full potential. Employing his background as a musician-composer and filmmaker during a three-decade career as a teacher, Hunter has combined his gifted teaching and artistic talents to develop unique teaching programs using multimedia software programs in creative writing and film courses.
Inspired by Ghandi, Hunter invented a board game challenging children to come up with solutions to global problems such as chemical spills, environmental disasters, and famine, peacefully.
In 1978, at the Richmond Community High School, Hunter led the first session of his World Peace Game. Over time, in a synchronous unfolding with the growing global focus on increasingly complex social and political conditions, the game has gained new impetus.
The World Peace Game, a hands-on political simulation for nine and 10-year-olds, has now been played around the world.
Hunter and the Game were the subjects of a documentary by filmmaker Chris Farina. The film, World Peace and Other 4th Grade Achievements was shown at the Bergen international film festival in Norway in 2010. Out of 145 international films that were shown there, we received the number one audience prize.
In 2011, Hunter gave a TED Talk about Teaching with the World Peace Game.
Two years later, Hunter published the book World Peace and Other 4th Grade Achievements.
