Hilary Knight Biography
Hilary Knight's impressive career in ice hockey has been marked with numerous accolades and milestones. Knight is a forward and captain for the Seattle Torrent of the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL). She has also captained the United States women's national ice hockey team. With a record of ten gold medals at the IIHF World Women's Championship, she stands as the most decorated hockey player in the competition's history. Knight's college years at the University of Wisconsin from 2007 to 2012 saw her team win two NCAA national championships (2009, 2011). Her contribution to women's professional hockey has been substantial, playing a pivotal role in the formation of the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association and the establishment of the PWHL.
Her achievements extend to the Olympics as well, where she is a four-time medalist, winning gold in 2018 and silver in 2010, 2014, and 2022. In 2023, Knight became the first player in IIHF World Women's Championship history to surpass 100 career points, earning her the inaugural IIHF Female Player of the Year award. Knight has also received three USA Hockey Bob Allen Women's Player of the Year awards (2014, 2022, 2025). Her prowess on the field is equally matched by her leadership skills. She served as the inaugural captain of the PWHL Boston (later rebranded as Boston Fleet) from 2023 through the 2024-25 season, and she led PWHL Boston to the Walter Cup Finals in its first season. In 2026, she captained the U.S. women's hockey team at the Winter Olympics and led them to the gold medal.
Knight's influence extends beyond the rink, as she is a leading advocate for equity and sustainability in women's professional hockey. Her off-field activities include appearances on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" and "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon" after winning gold at the 2018 Olympics. In addition, she was featured in ESPN The Magazine's The Body Issue in 2014 and in the TV Mini Series "Change of Pace" by Red Bull in 2019. She serves as a guest analyst for NBC during the NHL playoffs and joined ESPN's broadcast team as an analyst for select NHL season games.
