Simone Biles Biography
Simone Biles is a leader in the world of gymnastics, having captured six All-Around World Championship titles. This makes her the most decorated gymnast in World Championships history – male or female - with a total of 30 medals (23 gold). She is an eleven-time Olympic medalist (7 gold, 2 silver, 2 bronze). Her unique talent and technique have led her to earn the rare distinction of having six skills named in her honor – The Biles – across the beam, floor, and vault disciplines. Biles is a three-time Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year, cementing her as a significant figure in the sport. She has been representing the United States in international competitions since 2012 and currently trains at the World Champions Centre, previously coached by Laurent Landi and Aimee Boorman.
With the most World medals (30) and most World gold medals (23), Biles surpassed Vitaly Scherbo's record of 23 World medals by winning her 24th and 25th, both gold, at the 2019 competition in Stuttgart. She is the female gymnast with the most World all-around titles (6). Biles is the sixth woman to win an individual all-around title at both the World Championships and the Olympics and the first gymnast since Lilia Podkopayeva in 1996 to hold both titles simultaneously. She became the first American woman to win two Olympic all-around and vault titles at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Furthermore, she is the tenth female gymnast and first American female gymnast to win a World medal in every event, and the first female gymnast since Daniela Silivaș in 1988 to win a medal in every event at a single Olympic Games or World Championships, having accomplished this feat at the 2018 World Championships in Doha. In 2023, she won her eighth U.S. Gymnastics title, breaking the 90-year-old U.S. Gymnastics title record previously held by Alfred Jochim. In May 2024, Biles won all-around gold at the Core Hydration Classic, marking a triumphant start to her season ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics. Biles' comeback after the 2020 Tokyo Olympics won her the Best Comeback Athlete Award at the 2024 ESPYS. She also won the ESPY Award for Best Female Athlete in 2017 and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2022.
