Hari Sreenivasan Biography
Hari Sreenivasan is an Emmy Award-winning American broadcast journalist with a career spanning reporting across local, national, and public media. Sreenivasan earned a degree in mass communication, with minors in politics and philosophy, from the University of Puget Sound. He began his career at NBC affiliate WNCN-TV in Raleigh, North Carolina, before moving to San Francisco to work for CNET, where he covered the high-tech sector and established a technology beat for local television. His work in technology journalism led to roles reporting and anchoring for national news programs.
Sreenivasan joined ABC News in New York City as a correspondent, serving as co-anchor of "World News Now" and co-host of the podcast "ABC News Shuffle" with Jake Tapper. He later reported for CBS News, contributing to "CBS Evening News," "The Early Show," and "CBS Sunday Morning." At ABC News, Sreenivasan worked extensively on the network's 24-hour digital service ABC News Now and reported for "World News Tonight with Peter Jennings" and "Nightline with Ted Koppel."
At PBS NewsHour, Sreenivasan has covered health, science, climate change, and education, and serves as anchor for PBS NewsHour Weekend. He joined the NewsHour as an online and on-air correspondent, guiding the development of the NewsHour's web presence and its relationship with local public media. Sreenivasan also anchors "SciTech Now," a science program produced by WLIW 21, a PBS affiliate on Long Island. His PBS projects include "The Doubleheader," a web-only video series on the intersection of sports and politics; "Coping with Climate Change," which examines the impact of rising global temperatures on American communities; and "PBS NewsHour Student Reporting Labs," connecting students with public broadcasting mentors and a journalism curriculum.
Sreenivasan is a host for "Amanpour and Company," which airs on PBS and CNN International, and serves as host and executive producer for "Take On Fake," a YouTube channel focused on misinformation and disinformation. His international reporting includes coverage of malnutrition in Guatemala, green energy technologies in Scotland, hotel bombings in Jordan, and major weather events such as hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Wilma.
Sreenivasan received an Emmy Award for outstanding investigative journalism for a PBS NewsHour story on gold mining by children in the Philippines and has earned Emmy nominations for work with PBS NewsHour, Frontline, and CBS. He has received multiple Outstanding Broadcast Story awards from the South Asian Journalists Association, where he has served on the board, and is a graduate of the Asian American Journalists Association's Executive Leadership Program.
