George Prescott Bush is a native Texan, born in Houston on April 24, 1976. As an attorney, businessman, former schoolteacher, former Naval Officer, and former Texas Land Commissioner, George P. Bush has dedicated his life to public service.
Commissioner Bush earned his bachelor’s degree from Rice University before teaching history to at-risk students—an early commitment to public service that later led him to the University of Texas School of Law where he obtained his law degree.
Commissioner Bush’s dedication extended beyond classroom walls: in 2006, he applied to the U.S. Naval Reserve through the Direct Commission Officer program. In June of 2010, he was mobilized for an eight-month tour of duty at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Among his service decorations, Commissioner Bush was awarded the Joint Service Commendation Medal for his meritorious service. He also received the Afghanistan Campaign Medal for serving in theater, and he earned the Intel Warfare Designator pin.
After earning his Juris Doctorate at The University of Texas School of Law, Bush clerked for U.S. District Judge for the Northern District of Texas, Sidney A. Fitzwater, an appointee of President Ronald Reagan. He then practiced corporate and securities law with a national law firm in Dallas. He subsequently co-founded Pennybacker Capital LLC, a real estate private equity firm, and St. Augustine Partners LLC, a Fort Worth-based investment firm focused on oil and gas transactions and consulting for private businesses. Commissioner Bush currently serves as the CEO and Managing Partner at Pine Cove Strategies LLC, a strategic advisory firm specializing in business consulting, government relations, and public affairs.
Commissioner Bush served as the 28th Land Commissioner for the State of Texas. As Land Commissioner, Bush served the schoolchildren, veterans, lands and resources under State stewardship. He did so by leading the largest housing recovery in State history in response to Hurricane Harvey, helping more than 60,000 victims rebuild their homes and their lives. During his tenure, he worked to ensure Texas’ 1.8 million veterans received the benefits they earned and prioritized conserving the hallowed grounds of the Alamo—the State’s most visited and cherished site of freedom. As Chairman of the $8.6 billion Permanent School Fund, Bush helped to generate record revenues for K-12 education through innovative administration and implemented prudent stewardship measures over 13 million acres of state lands and natural resources.
As Texas Land Commissioner, Commissioner Bush not only fought but won for Texans in the courts. He sued the Biden Administration, in a case named Bush v. Biden, for its failure to finish building the congressionally authorized border wall. Previously, he won a major legal victory for Texas schoolchildren, standing up to the Obama Administration’s Bureau of Land Management’s illegal land grab, protecting State assets for years to come. Bush has routinely fought for freedom against federal government overreach and ensured that unelected bureaucrats do not dictate how our State operates.
In addition, as Land Commissioner, Bush posed legal challenges against radical environmentalists abusing the Endangered Species Act, and protected State property rights from trial lawyers. Commissioner Bush stood up to the EPA, pushing back against radical and politically motivated carbon regulations that threaten the stability of Texas’s electrical grid. He also fought to preserve Texas’ oil and gas rights in Denton when far-left environmentalists tried to disrupt the Texas oil and gas industry.
Since 2023, George P. Bush has taken his experience into the private sector and political advocacy. He founded and chairs the federal Restore Trust PAC and state-level Restore Trust Texas, championing a future of accountable, fiscally responsible, and modernized government leadership.
Commissioner Bush is the grandson of President George H.W. Bush, the son of former Florida Governor Jeb Bush and the nephew of President George W. Bush. He lives in Austin with his wife, Amanda, and their two sons.
