David Lim Biography
David Lim is a mountaineer and leadership coach recognized for leading the first Singapore Mount Everest Expedition, which resulted in two team members reaching the summit. This achievement highlighted the importance of calculated risk-taking and resilience in Singapore. Lim's mountaineering experience includes leadership in more than 70 alpine ascents, including expeditions to Mount Everest and several Southeast Asian first ascents. He has led over 15 expeditions, such as the first all-Singapore ascent of Aconcagua and a solo ascent of Ojos del Salado, the highest volcano in the world.
Lim's career took a significant turn after he was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome, resulting in paralysis shortly after his Everest expedition. Following an extended recovery, Lim returned to mountaineering and his story was featured as the cover story of Reader's Digest magazine and translated into multiple languages.
Lim has established a career as a leadership coach and keynote speaker, specializing in negotiation, facilitating change, and experiential learning programs. He has addressed audiences in more than 34 countries and 83 cities. Lim has served on the adjunct faculty for INSEAD business school, engaging leaders on self and team leadership. He is a certified practitioner in Neuro-Semantics and Neuro-Linguistic Programming, applying evidence-based methods in his work with organizations.
Lim holds the Certified Speaking Professional designation, becoming the first Singaporean to receive this recognition from the National Speakers Association and the Global Speakers Federation. He has also been awarded the Global Speaking Fellow designation and is a Speaker Hall of Fame awardee.
As an author, Lim has written several books on resilience and leadership, including "Mountain to Climb: The Quest for Everest and Beyond," "Against Giants: The Life and Climbs of a Disabled Mountaineer," "How Leaders Lead: 71 Lessons in Leading Yourself and Others," and "Lessons from the Edge." Through his writing, speaking, and coaching, Lim addresses topics such as leadership development, overcoming adversity, and navigating change in organizations.
