Cristina Zenato Biography
Cristina Zenato is a shark ecologist, behaviorist, and conservationist known for her work with Caribbean reef sharks in the Bahamas. As a PADI Course Director, NSS-CDS Advanced Cave diving instructor, and TDI Technical Instructor, Zenato has trained divers while serving as diving supervisor at UNEXSO, the world's first dedicated diving resort. She developed techniques for removing fish hooks from sharks, reflecting her expertise in marine behavior and shark conservation.
Zenato's explorations include remapping underwater caves in Lucayan National Park and connecting freshwater inland caves with saltwater ocean systems, becoming the first woman to accomplish these achievements. She founded the nonprofit People of the Water, which focuses on education, research, and conservation related to ocean and environmental issues. Zenato also supports organizations such as Bahamas National Trust and the Women Divers Hall of Fame scholarships.
