Charles Goddard is a journalist and editorial leader with an extensive career at The Economist Group, a global media organization. Goddard has served as editorial director of The Economist Group, following more than a decade as editorial director, Asia Pacific, at Economist Intelligence Unit. In his role, Goddard develops The Economist Group's flagship initiatives, collaborating with partners on topics including aging and longevity, climate change, global health, and the sustainable ocean economy.
Goddard has contributed to a range of publications and services at Economist Intelligence Unit, including as author of the "China Market Atlas" series and director of its research divisions. He led editorial services in Asia-Pacific, including the Corporate Network, a peer group for senior decision-makers of global businesses in the region. In this capacity, Goddard was responsible for editorial vision, quality, compliance, and for analyzing key trends and issues in Asia, reporting to the executive editor of The Economist.
As founder and executive director of The Economist's World Ocean Summit, Goddard established the summit to influence global public policy dialogue on sustainable ocean use.
