Antonia Hylton Biography
Antonia Hylton is a Peabody and two-time Emmy Award-winning correspondent, producer, and author who reports on politics, civil rights, and immigration. Hylton serves as co-anchor for MSNBC's "The Weekend: Primetime." She graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University, majoring in history and science and global health. At Harvard, she received recognition for her writing and investigative research on race, mass incarceration, and the history of psychiatry.
Hylton began her journalism career at Mic.com as a producer and writer for news shows such as "Flip the Script" and "Future Present." While at Mic, she co-developed the docuseries "The Movement with Darnell Moore," which focused on grassroots organizing across the United States. She later worked as a correspondent and producer for Vice Media and HBO's nightly news and documentary program, "Vice News Tonight." Her reporting there earned her an Emmy Award for an HBO special episode on the family separation crisis, a Gracie Award for stories about women, a NAMIC Vision Award for coverage of violence and politics in Chicago, and two Front Page Awards for special reporting and breaking news.
Hylton co-hosts MSNBC's "The Weekend: Primetime," alongside anchor Ayman Mohyeldin and Washington Post columnist Catherine Rampell. In this role, she focuses on original and enterprise reporting, covering topics such as politics, education, immigration, and cultural issues. She has moderated political events, including the Brown & Black Democratic Presidential Forum in Iowa, where she questioned presidential candidates Joe Biden and Pete Buttigieg. Hylton also serves as an annual judge for the American Mosaic Journalism Prize.
Her recognition includes being named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list, a Peabody Award for podcast and radio, and an Emmy Award in news and documentary. Hylton also won two Emmy Awards and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Audio Reporting. Much of this recognition is connected to her co-hosting of the podcast "Southlake," which examined a community in Southlake, Texas, and explored how a local event sparked national discussions about fairness and education.
Hylton is the author of the New York Times bestseller "Madness." The book examines the ninety-three-year history of Crownsville Hospital, one of the last segregated asylums with surviving records, located in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Hylton combines the stories of patients and employees whose lives were shaped by Crownsville with investigative research and archival documents. The book was named a USA Today Bestseller, a National Indie Bestseller, one of Kirkus Reviews' Best Nonfiction Books of the Year, and an Amazon Best Book of the Year.
