Amy Harder Biography
Amy Harder is the national energy correspondent for Axios, covering energy and climate policy, technology and politics. She has reported on the sector for more than 15 years across major national publications.
Before rejoining Axios in September 2025, Harder was the founding executive editor of Cipher News, where she led a global team producing solutions-focused journalism on climate and energy. Earlier in her career, she worked at Axios shortly after its 2017 launch, The Wall Street Journal and National Journal.
She is also the inaugural journalism fellow at the University of Chicago’s Institute for Climate and Sustainable Growth, where she hosts the Shocked podcast and moderates campus events.
Her reporting has spanned coal mines in West Virginia, wind farms in Australia and a carbon capture facility in Norway. She focuses on bridging gaps among policymakers, industry leaders and people directly affected by energy development.
Her work has appeared on PBS NewsHour, MSNBC, NPR, CBS and C-SPAN. Awards include the American Nuclear Society’s Darlene Schmidt Science News Award (2019) and the American Energy Society’s Energy Writer of the Year (2022).
Harder lives in the Pacific Northwest and sits on the board of the Washington State Chapter of The Nature Conservancy.
