Alex Morgan Biography
Alex Morgan's impact on the soccer field is irrefutable. Her tenure as co-captain of the United States national team from 2018 to 2020 and in 2023 was punctuated by her selection as U.S. Soccer Female Athlete of the Year. Twice a finalist for FIFA World Player of the Year, Morgan's talent was instrumental in the United States' FIFA Women's World Cup victories in 2015 and 2019. She also won Olympic gold at the 2012 London Olympics and silver at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Her influence extended to the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), where she won the Golden Boot in 2022 and aided San Diego Wave FC in securing the NWSL Shield in 2023.
Off the field, Morgan's accomplishments are equally impressive. She has penned a middle-grade book series titled "The Kicks" with Simon & Schuster, and made her acting debut in the film "Alex & Me" in 2018. Morgan has also graced the cover of FIFA 16 alongside Lionel Messi and was featured in FIFA 19's Journey. Her influence transcends her sport, as demonstrated by her inclusion in Time's 100 Most Influential People of 2019 and 2022. Morgan's retirement from professional soccer in 2024 was marked by a historic broadcast of her final match.
Morgan's career began with her being the first overall pick in the 2011 WPS Draft by the Western New York Flash. Her journey then took her to teams like the Seattle Sounders, Portland Thorns FC, and Orlando Pride. A stint with Olympique Lyonnais in France saw her scoring a brace in the 2017 UEFA Women's Champions League Final. Morgan joined Tottenham Hotspur in 2020, where she scored her first goal for the club, before returning to the U.S. to play for Orlando Pride and eventually San Diego Wave FC.
