Aisha Adkins Biography
Aisha Adkins is a writer, speaker, advisor, and organizer whose work focuses on building a more equitable, inclusive, and comprehensive public health and care infrastructure. Drawing from her own experience as a caregiver, Adkins has become a prominent voice in caregiving advocacy, utilizing media, storytelling, and policy change to influence how care is provided, received, and valued across the United States. Her contributions span academic journals and popular publications, allowing her to engage both policy experts and everyday caregivers.
Adkins began her advocacy when she became a full-time caregiver for her parents, supporting her mother following a diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia and her father after multiple strokes. She transformed these personal challenges into efforts for systemic change, focusing on amplifying the voices of young, minority caregivers through storytelling. Adkins founded "Our Turn 2 Care," a nonprofit organization that connects BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ millennial caregivers to information, resources, and community.
Adkins earned a Master of Public Administration from the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies and is a Certified Nonprofit Professional. She joined Caring Across Generations as a care activist, participating in the inaugural Care Fellowship and serving as an organizing and legislative analyst. Adkins later became the manager of training, organizing family caregivers, older adults, and disabled people to collectively transform care in the U.S.
As an international speaker, Adkins addresses topics including healthcare, diversity and inclusion, aging, disability, social activism, civil rights, and public health. She shares insights on mental illness, caregiving, and end-of-life, advocating for affordable, accessible, and equitable care for all. Adkins participated in Columbia University's Age Boom Academy fellowship and leads the Caregivers of Color Collective, supporting unpaid caregivers of color nationwide.
