For 21 years, Tom Glavine proved a formidable force on the pitchers mound. As a left-handed pitcher, Glavine reached heights of success that elevated him to the level of the all-time greats and retired as the National Leagues pitcher with the second most wins with 164.
Glavine appearances in Major League Baseball both began and ended with the Atlanta Braves, but the pitching star also played for the New York Mets from 2003 to 2007. His career began with the Braves in 1987, and he retired from that team in 2008. Throughout his career, he compiled a strong record of statistics that includes an earned run average of 3.54 and 2,607 strikeouts. He helped lead the Braves to a World Series championship in 1995 and in the process earned that year's World Series Most Valuable Player Award and the Babe Ruth Award. Other honors throughout his career have included 10 elections to the All-Star team, two National League Cy Young awards, four Silver Slugger awards and two National League TSN Pitcher of the Year awards.
In 2011, Glavine became a color commentator for Atlanta Braves baseball games. He was voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014.
Glavine appearances in support children's cancer charities have included the Rally Foundations Money in the Mitt 300 Challenge and the creation of Cabernet Glavignon in support of CURE Childhood Cancer. He also speaks in support of the Operation Backpack program for Volunteers of America and on behalf of the Georgia Transplant Association. He is heavily involved as a member of the National Sports Committee of the Leukemia Society of America and has helped raise money as an honorary chairman of the Georgia Council on Child Abuse.
