From the United Arab Emirates, Zahra Lari became both the first skater from the Persian Gulf to participate in international figure skating and the first international figure skater to compete with a headscarf. In September 2017, she competed in Germany and qualified to represent the UAE in the 2018 Winter Olympics. She also appeared in Nike’s 2017 online campaign, “What Will They Say About You?”
