Willow Bay Biography
Willow Bay is a broadcast journalist, media executive, and digital communication leader whose career spans television news, digital media, and academic administration. Bay has worked as a journalist, author, producer, and digital news editor, with experience at NBC's "Today Show," ABC News' "Good Morning America/Sunday," CNN's "Moneyline News Hour," The Huffington Post, and Bloomberg TV. She was the first woman to co-anchor CNN's Moneyline. Before transitioning fully into journalism, Bay established a profile in the modeling industry, continuing to model through her 20s and serving as the official spokesperson for Estée Lauder's cosmetic line.
Bay is the dean of the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, where she has advanced student-centered, industry-engaged curricula and programs, increased access to technology and data solutions, and expanded scholarship support for students in media, journalism, and communication. As the first female dean of USC Annenberg, Bay oversees nearly 300 faculty and staff and nearly 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students across communication, journalism, public relations, and public diplomacy. Prior to her role as dean, Bay was director of the USC Annenberg School of Journalism, where she guided the launch of the Media Center in Wallis Annenberg Hall and introduced the school's Bachelor of Arts in Journalism degree program. Bay joined USC Annenberg from her position as senior editor and senior strategic advisor at The Huffington Post.
Bay's leadership at USC Annenberg is based on four core pillars: driving academic innovation in teaching and scholarship; expanding thought leadership and impact; strengthening partnerships across academia and industry; and increasing access and opportunity for the school community. Bay has increased Annenberg's public engagement around issues such as the role of communication technology in advancing equity and access, digital media literacy, gender equity in media and communication, and sports and social change. She was also appointed interim dean of the USC School of Architecture.
Throughout her career, Bay has interviewed global figures including former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, and the Dalai Lama. Her work has been recognized by the Los Angeles Press Club with the Joseph M. Quinn Award for Lifetime Achievement, the Award of Honor from PEN Center USA for advancing digital communication, the Hedy Lamarr Award for Innovation in Entertainment Technology from DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group, and the inaugural Communications Leader of the Year honor from Saban Community Clinic's Communicator Awards.
Bay gained attention for purchasing Angel City FC, contributing to its status as one of the most valuable women's sports teams. Bay holds a Bachelor of Arts in literature from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from New York University's Stern School of Business. Her career reflects ongoing contributions to media, digital communication, journalism education, and women's leadership.
