Tim Davie Biography
Tim Davie served as Director-General of the BBC from September 2020 until November 2025, a position he had previously held from November 2012 to April 2013. His leadership was marked by several significant decisions and actions, including the introduction of new guidelines for BBC staff regarding personal views on political issues on social media, aimed at reducing perceived bias. In addition to his role at the BBC, Davie also served on the boards of Freesat, Digital UK, and the Children in Need charity.
Davie's influence extended beyond the BBC, as he was elected to the Executive Board of the European Broadcasting Union in December 2021 and re-elected in December 2022. He also participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 alongside the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Lucy Frazer.
In 2018, Davie was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to international trade and was named by the New Statesman as the eleventh most powerful person on the right in UK politics in 2023. As of 2018, he served as Chairman of Comic Relief, Trustee of the Tate and the Royal Television Society, and Chairman of the Creative Industries Council.
